Kirani James, a Grenada resident from a small region, recently reflected on his journey on his birthday in an interview. This year, he came second in the men’s 400m sprint at the Rome Diamond League, just in 44.30 seconds and winning the silver medal.
Even though he did not win first place, Kirani James remained positive about his performance.
“I feel good; it was a great race, considering I have not competed for two weeks. I was home in Grenada to celebrate with my teammates who won medals. I was happy to go home and witness this nice celebration,” he shared in a post-race interview.
“I have been running at this high level for a long time. It is great to represent my country and to give my best for Grenada. To be the best I can be. We must see the point standings for the Diamond League,” James added.
In the men’s 400-metre finals at the Paris Summer Olympics in 2024, Kirani James finished fourth. He won the 2011 World Championship at age 18 in 44.60 seconds, his best time where he holds a mind-blowing margin.35 ahead of any other runner, this given right ever to enter the competition. He also won the first IAAF World Championship gold medal in Grenada history. And won Gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last summer, following the 2nd place in his second consecutive Diamond League race of 2015.
Adding more victories to his outstanding career, he took silver in the men’s 400m at the Rio Olympics and bronze at Tokyo, completing a hat-trick and becoming a three-time world champion.
