Castries, Saint Lucia: Julien Alfred from Saint Lucia won silver at the London Athletics Meet in England, and set a new national 200m record of 21.86 seconds on Saturday. With her performance, the record for the women’s 200m has been lowered by five-hundredths of a second.
Notably, her previous fastest was 21.91 seconds which was also considered the national record for Women’s 200m. She finished running in 21.86 in the London Athletic Meet and turned out to be a great day and she finished second.
However, she was unable to win the second Diamond League as Julien Alfred secured the top spot in Monaco 10 days ago. The first position and the Diamond League was secured by Gabby Thomas from the United States who finished her running at 21.82 seconds.
With the victory, she became the first woman to run faster than 21.80 for the half-lap, making her secure record.
A 23-year-old Julien Alfred from Saint Lucia is the World Indoor 60m champion who has been preparing for the biggest athletic celebration- the Olympics that are scheduled to be held from July 26, 2024. She added that she felt strong in the race and after that, she is heading back to Monaco to train and then, she will off to Paris.
She expressed enthusiasm and hopes for winning a gold medal in both 100m and 200m, but most importantly, she is looking forward to enjoying the games. Notably, Alfred will make her debut at the Paris Olympics 2024 and she added that she will have fun in the game.
Prime Minister of Saint Lucia- Philip J Pierre expressed pride and said that the country is looking forward to her performance in Paris. He added,” Congratulations Julien Alfred, Looking forward to your performance in Paris. We are proud of you.”
Ernest Hilaire- Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Lucia expressed pleasure and added that the country will support her in her achievement. She added,” We all supported you Julien Alfred during your race this morning. The island stands proud as we know you continue to represent us in the best way possible.”
Minister Hilaire extended greetings for securing the national record in the Diamond League in London.
