Castries, Saint Lucia: Julien Alfred advanced to the finals of the women’s 200m at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024 which is scheduled to be held on Tuesday at 3: 40 pm. She finished the game by winning first spot in her heat with a strong 21.98 seconds.
For supporting Alfred, Saint Lucia organized the “Watch Party” for the finals of the women’s 200m and invited the citizens to gather at different locations by wearing the colours of the national flags.
The watch party will be held at Derek Walcott Square, Vieux Fort Town Square and the Corner of Notre Dame and Dauphin Street Gros Islet. The government officials including Prime Minister Philip J Pierre, Deputy Prime Minister- Dr Ernest Hilaire and the opposition leader- Allen Chastanet also extended greetings and changed their cover photos on their social media handles with Julien Alfred’s winning moment.
Julien pursues her goal for a second Gold and Olympics sprint double when she shows up at the starting blocks tomorrow, Tuesday, 6th, August at the Women’s 200 Finals commencing 3:40pm.
Julien Alfred created history on the stage of the Paris Olympics 2024 by winning the first-ever medal for Saint Lucia. She clinched the gold medal by finishing the race in 10.72 seconds in the women’s 100m and become the first athlete from Saint Lucia to win the medal.
The victory has been appreciated by her countrymen and the people from across the globe and stated that the girl from the small island with approx. 200000 population have managed to win the gold medal in Olympics.
She also spoke about her success at the event and stated that it was a great feeling as she felt happy having them around her. With her victory, Saint Lucia become the second most searched country on Google after Julien Alfred won the gold medal.
Alfred from the small island state has positioned her country on the global stage where everyone is recognizing her for her great performance.
