Jamaica: Jamaica’s Ice Hockey team won the “First Ever Inaugural Challenger Series Championship” on Wednesday in Toronto, Canada. The team defeated Lebanon in the final match with 12-8 goals and created history by becoming first winners of the championships.
Launched in this year’s spring, the Challenger Series consisted of the team from different countries such as Jamaica, Lebanon and Puerto Rico.
With the start of the game, Jamaica received early lead in the final match due to the support and chanting for the players of the country from the supporters. However, the lead wasn’t affected much to Lebanon as they turned the scenario of the game in the first period by quickly hitting three goals.
The game again took the interesting turn with the strong comeback of Jamaica in the second period. The first half remained well for Lebanon and second half started working in the favour of Jamaica as they established 5-3 score on the board and then 6-4 with the lead of two goals.
However, Lebanon managed to equalize the lead and put two more goals with their game by establishing 6-6 goals on the board.
After that, Jamaica again comes into lead and then surged ahead, scoring three more goals to end the second period with the scores of 9-6. In the final period, the Ice Hockey team of Jamaica maintained their lead and again hit three more goals.
However, two goals have also come from Lebanon players who took their scores from 6 to 8, but after that they were unable to restrict Jamaica. While securing victory, Jamaica hit 12 goals and restricted the other team at 8.
Notably, in the earlier rounds of the championship series, Jamaica won two wins in the four matches against Puerto Rico and Lebanon respectively. However, they also suffered two losses against these team in the tournament.
Jamaica has already won gold medal in their international debut at the 2019 Amerigol Latam Cup as they defeated Colombia with the score of 3-2.
