Jamaica: Three Jamaican athletes have qualified for the semi-finals of the women’s 100m at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games on Friday.
Shelly- Ann Fraser-Pryce, Tia Clayton and Shashalee Forbes have been advanced to the semi-final round of the track and field competition by recording impressive timings.
Firstly, the success was secured by Fraser-Pryce who clocked 10.92 seconds and reached the semis. She will play her fifth and final Olympic semis and if qualified then it would be her last Olympic game.
She finished the race behind Marie Jose3e Ta Lou Smith of the Ivory Coast who won in 10.87 seconds. Fraser recorded the second best time and paved the path to the semis.
The second athlete in the game was Clayton clocked 11.00 seconds even with the strapped-up right ham string. She finished the race efficiently and opened the road for herself to the Olympic medal.
The first position in her heat was secured by Canadian Audrey Leduc who recorded 10.95 seconds to reach the finals.
The third athlete was Forbes of Jamaica who recently replaced Shericka Jackson in the women’s 100m. She has also qualified for the semi-finals of the event in her heat by recording 11.19 seconds. She was behind American Twanisha Terry who finished the race by clocking 11.15 seconds and reached the finals.
The semi-final of the track and field competition is scheduled to take place on Saturday and if qualified then these athletes will play the final round on Sunday.
Notably, the Caribbean sprinters were also joined by Saint Lucian Julien Alfred who also advanced to the semi-final of the event.
She is the only women athlete from Saint Lucia and has the chance to create history by becoming first athlete from the country to win Olympic medal.
She will also play for her first Olympic medal along with other Caribbean colleagues.
The wishes have been poured on these athletes for their outstanding performances as Caribbean region has yet to win the medal in the game.
