Bahamas: Hurricane Ernesto is expected to produce strong winds, dangerous storm and life-threatening flooding across Bermuda and the Bahamas. As per the met department, Ernesto will strengthen into Category 5 hurricane while moving towards the island nation.
Due to the situation, few showers and thunderstorms across the Bahamas while a weak ride of high pressure dominates weather conditions across the remainder of the islands. A heat advisory will remain in effect for the islands due to overtopping waves and coastal flooding across the region.
Hurricane Ernesto is also expected to move toward the north-northeast near 13 miles per hour and maximum sustained winds will remain near 100 miles per hour with higher gusts. Ernesto is also forecast to be a large hurricane near Bermuda on Saturday and maintain hurricane strength through the weekend.
In Bahamas, the residents and visitors are advised to remain hydrated as the heat wave is likely to pose threat. They are also asked to avoid extended or rigorous outdoor activities and wear lose fitted clothing and sunscreen.
Activities including hazardous boating and beaching will impact the islands therefore boaters and beachgoers are strongly advised to avoid entering Atlantic Waters due to moderate to large easterly swells and dangerous situations.
Tropical Storm Ernesto firstly hit St Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda and Dominica on Tuesday with torrential rain and severe thunderstorms. It has caused destruction including falling trees and other damage to the properties.
Further, the storm turned into Hurricane on Wednesday and hit hard to Puerto Rico and the areas near British Virgin Islands. The hurricane produced life-threatening flooding across the countries and caused massive destruction to the properties.
Ernesto was the fifth Tropical Storm and the third hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season which began on June 1, 2024 and will run through November 30, 2024. The season has been posing threats to the region with massive flooding and other inclement conditions.
