Roseau, Dominica: The Commonwealth of Dominica has begun its preparation to deal with and overcome Tropical Storm Beryl. Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit called an emergency meeting to assess the possible impact of situation and also have a discussion on the country’s readiness and make final preparations.

The meeting was attended by Minister for National Security Rayburn Blackmore and members of the National Emergency Planning Organization (NEPO) to discuss and assess the situation as the country has been under the Tropical Storm Watch.

As the Beryl is heading towards Windward Islands it has intensified and transformed into an extremely dangerous category four storm. Also, the forecasters have been naming it as life-threatening.

At 11 am on Sunday, Beryl’s centre of circulation was 570 kilometres east-southeast of Barbados and 755km east of Grenada.

The Prime Minister of Dominica shared that, “Tropical Storm Beryl is now racing towards the island chain and is expected to move across the Windward Islands on Monday.”

He further stated that although Dominica is not directly in Beryl’s probable path, but the residents should constantly monitor the progress and keep informed. Also, the PM urged the residents to take all precautionary actions.

Additionally, the residents should look around their homes and properties and also carry out the necessary activities to prepare themselves to be safe and save their properties.

Prime Minister Drew also declared that “the national system stands ready to provide support, but the citizens should do all they can to reduce the impact on lives and property.”

He also mentioned that all the fisher-folk should also be mindful of the warning messages and secure their vessels and equipment.

The latest update shared by Dominica Meteorological Service shares that the island will see some sunshine despite Beryl being on its way.

It has also shared that Dominicans can expect a temporary break from the rain today. However, as Beryl will arrive tonight, it can be expected to have showers and winds.
