The Guyana Police Force acting on the information received by an anonymous caller, who informed the police officials that an amount of narcotics has been allegedly dropped off in the Solar Farm area within the Mazaruni Prison compound, with the intention of smuggling into the prison.
Upon receiving the information, the officer in charge informed a prison officer to conduct checks in the area. The officers in the prison acted upon the instructions and started searching the area on Sunday from 10:35 am to 11:15 am conducted searches within approximately 100 feet west from the Solar Farm.
As a result, the prison officers discovered two bulky multi coloured “Bob Marley” Haversacks, and upon investigating they found bulky parcels loaded inside the two bags, which contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
After finding the bags the officers immediately informed his superior who subsequently reported the matter to the Bartic Police Station. The location from which the bags were found was approximately 300 feet away from the Mazaruni river and the area was widely covered with vegetation ranging from one to five feet in height.
Upon thorough checking of the bags a sum of 17 bulky parcels were recovered and additionally two pairs of slippers with abnormally bulky insoles were found. After weighing the cannabis in the presence of police authorities and the prison officers the cannabis weighed 2,432.8 grams. The items were seized and were provided to the Bartica Police Authorities.
Statements were noted and further investigations are continuing.
