Guyana: 8 Indian nationals apprehended for illegal entry, deported to Suriname

Guyana: A group of 8 Indian nationals and 2 local drivers were arrested by Police officials on Friday at the No. 63 beach in Region Six of Corentyne, Berbice, for illegally entering the country.

Guyana Police officials reported that, while on Patrol duty observed two cars with registered numbers PAB 9258 and HD 26 that were heading north. To conduct the regular checking the cars were stopped at around 12:38 AM.

After the cars stopped, the drivers and others were questioned, as a result the officers determined that the Indians have entered Guyana illegally via the number 63 beach and were taken to Springlands Police Station for further investigation.

The arrested men were identified as:

  • Saurab, 22, an unemployed national of India.
  • Rathee Sahil, 26, is professionally a farmer from Delhi, India.
  • Rahul,23 years old, is a farmer from Chandigarh, India.
  • Sagar is a 23-yr-old farmer from Chandigarh, India.
  • Gurlall Singh Bajwa, aged 19, from Bareilly, India.
  • Hardeep Singh,36-years-old, farmer of Chandigarh, India.
  • Baldev Singh, 23, farmer of Dehradun, India.
  • Gurjit Singh, 22, farmer of Jalandhar, India.

Additionally, the local drivers arrested have been identified as:

  • The driver of motor car PAB 9258, a 41-year-old and resident of No. 50 village, Corentyne, Berbice.
  • The driver of HC 26, is a 43-year-old resident of Haslington, New Amsterdam.

The authorities shared after the checks were conducted on their Republic of India issued passports, it was revealed that all the arrested Indian nationals came to Suriname during the period of May 18 to May 27, 2024.

Also, all of them entered Guyana without presenting themselves to Guyana Immigration officers.

Subsequently, all the Indians were handed over to the Immigration department and were sent back to Suriname.

According to the statements issued by Divisional Commander of Region Six, Shivpersaud Bacchus, none of the arrested individuals’ passport had US Visa. And Suriname was the last country they legally entered, which is why they were sent back.

Moreover, both the local drivers were released on station bail of $100,000 each.
