St. George’s -Launching a special awareness campaign, the Grenada Ministry of Health, has asked the men to be more aware of their health and take proactive measures to stay fit and fine.
The campaign was launched recently and was announced by Keville Fedrick, Senior Health Promotions, Communication, and Public Information Officer, during an interview.
Frederick said that the campaign was aimed at raising awareness amongst men about their health.
A large number of men in Grenada and the Caribbean region are at risk of prostate cancer, which has become a leading cause of death in the region.
Kickstarting the initiative, a special corner has been set up within the premises of the ministerial complex where men can engage with health experts to know what health risks they face.
Frederick said that this space has been dedicated for proper dissemination of information about prostate cancer amongst men, while the facility for conducting various medical tests has also been made available at Government and private Health Care centres across the nation.
He said that this was the beginning of an elaborate campaign under which the ministerial staff will reach out to the men across the nation and provide them with the needed information so that they can make informed decisions.
The campaign has been titled Champions of Men’s Health, and the Minister For Health, Honorable Philip Telesford, is personally overseeing all the efforts that are being made by the staff for its successful conduct across the nation.
Frederick said that the main aim of launching this campaign was to create awareness among the men so that they can take their health seriously and ensure that all preventive measures are taken by them to ward off prostate cancer.
He said that under this campaign, men are being encouraged to go for regular health checkups so that early detection of any signs of disease can be dealt with promptly.
The government his providing medical tests for early detection of prostate cancer including prostate specific antigen (PSA) tests, through which levels of PSA can be measured.
Frederick said that these tests are being made available at both public and private healthcare facilities across the nation.
Besides, the government is also making arrangements for the conduct of MRI scans, urine tests, and digital rectal examinations so that the spread of prostate cancer among men can be checked.
Frederick said that men were being encouraged to consult their health provider to know the best course of action in order to keep prostate cancer at bay.
He said that the effort being made by the Ministry of Health will not be limited to the ministerial complexes, but there are plans to reach out to the maximum number of men in the nation through the awareness campaign.
