Caribbean: Grenada, Dominica and Saint Lucia secured top three position in the list of the “Top 10 Medals Per Population” at Paris 2024 Olympics Games. The list was unveiled by the Commonweath Games Federation and added that 20.2% of all medals have been secured by nations at the games.
In the standing, the first position was secured by Grenada- a Caribbean country with a population of 58,604. The team won two bronze medals in the games and created history by becoming two medal holder country in the Olympics.
The first medal for Grenada came from Decathlon by Lindon Victory and the second one came from Javelin Throw by Anderson Peters.
The second position was won by Dominica- second Caribbean country with a population of 66,205. The country secured their first-ever Olympic medal this year and that too Gold by Thea Lafond in Triple Jump. She etched history by positioning the name of her country at the global stage.
For the first time in history, the national anthem of Dominica was also played at the Olympics when Lafond was standing on the podium and accepting the gold medal.
The third position was secured by Saint Lucia- third Caribbean country with a population of 89,872. It was also the first-ever Olympic medal for the country in Paris as the history was created by Sprinter and world’s fastest woman Julien Alfred who clinched gold.
She became the first-ever athlete to win first medal in Olympic and that too gold. The most interesting aspect was that she was the first athlete of Saint Lucia who won two medals in the same Olympics and due to her the country ended up their journey in the event with two medals.
Julien Alfred won gold medal in women’s 100m and secured the silver in the women’s 200m in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Notably, the list also featured Jamaica on the sixth position- another Caribbean country with a population of 473,196. The country won the most medals from the Caribbean region and ended up their Olympics journey with six victories.
Jamaica won one gold in Discus throw by Roje Stone, three silver medals and two bronze in Paris Olympics 2024. These four Caribbean countries have created history by producing great athletes of their times.
These four countries have been positioned above in the overall standing of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games from those with huge populations and great economies in the world.
