Agriculture Sector and Caribbean
As the Caribbean region is known for its natural beauty, the agriculture sector is one of the major sources of income for the countries in it. However, the usage of the land in the region which is quite suitable for the farming of several unique products and crops is limited.
The countries are currently importing massive food products from the foreign nations due to lack of farming of the natural products on the lands of the Caribbean countries. With this, the dependence on foreign products has been increasing in the region, leading to food insecurity in the countries.
In order to combat the issue, the CARICOM Heads of State came up with an idea of 25 by 25 under which the products will be locally grown and the dependence on the foreign products could be reduced.
The farming of grapes in Nevis is another initiative of the government that could be used to realize the aim of 25 by 25.
