Nevis: The Grand Street Parade has ended the journey of month-long celebration of the Nevis Culturama 2024 as the patrons have gathered to mark the occasion. The 50th anniversary ended with the dance moves and colorful moments between the global visitors and the local community on Wednesday.
The tourists and local people took to the streets, wearing colorful attire that signify the colours of the Culturama, and participated in the parades of the bands. The bands have gathered and performed the local music of Nevis, showcasing its cultural significance and traditional approaches.
People in the gathering decided the winners of the bands by judging them on the basis of creativity, a showcase of vibrant colours and outlining the message of cultural pride. The results unveiled that Fantasy won the Grand Street Parade for this year with the runner-up positions were hold by:
FLOT was in the first runner-up position, FOLKLORE was in the second runner-up position and OLEMAS was in the third runner-up position in the last lap. The grand parade was kicked off near the roundabout by Valumart which also served as the first judging point. It then proceeded along the island’s main road, passing the villa grounds, where the second judging point was located.
The parade continued along the main road into Charlestown and enhanced the cultural vibes at the Nevis Cultural Village. The parade ended with the performance at Samuel Hunkins Drive which was also the third and final judging point of Nevis Culturama Festival 2024.
The troupes such as Rhythm Up, Nevis Natural and Jamboree and other 50 young masqueraders, clows and even bulls from St Kitts and Nevis has filled the streets with the display of the culture and heritage.
Premier of Nevis- Mark Brantley added that the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Nevis Culturama Festival was tuned out to be a massive success. The traditional LongJam from Gingerland to town also showcased the culture of Nevis. Kore nd Kassanova brought the energy to the road and revellers in their thousands had a wonderful time.
He said that he especially enjoyed the fact that people partied responsibly with no reported incidents or accidents. The event also featured the performance of Donal Drpacker Manners and turned out to be great homecoming celebration.
For one-month long, people in Nevis celebrated the culture of the island nation with music, beats and traditional attire. At the celebration, all roads from sexy St Kitts led to Nevis for the final hurrah of Culturama 50 and Nevis’s Homecoming celebrations.
Premier added that the economic impact thus far of the Nevis Culturama Festival and the Homecoming was incredible as iConnect brought the passengers from St Kitts to Nevis.
