New Delhi, India: Dr. Denzil Douglas, Foreign Minister, St. Kitts and Nevis held discussions with Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General at Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in New Delhi on Wednesday. The meeting aimed at enhancing the bilateral relations and cooperation between St. Kitts and Nevis and Republic of India. 

Sharing the update in a post on his official Facebook Page, Dr. Douglas stated, that the aim of this meeting was “focused on enhancing bilateral economic cooperation and collaboration in energy, mainly solar energy, capacity building and tourism.” 

Additionally, the Confederation of Indian Industry stated that the discussions were focused on enhancing bilateral economic cooperation and collaboration in vital sectors.  

The areas that positive development can be witnessed in terms of collaboration and resource exchange including energy, with a focus on solar energy, capacity building, and tourism. 

It is to be noted that, Dr. Denzil Douglas is currently on a six-day visit to India, which began on August 4. Ever since he landed in the country, he has been meeting several political leaders who holds various ministries with an aim to bolster the relations and collaboration among the countries.  

Till now Dr. Douglas has signed MoUs with Dr. S. Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, India to further intensify the bilateral political consultations. During the meeting both the Ministers discussed on expanding partnership to digital, health, food security and capacity development.  

They also exchanged views on our convergences as Global South in the multilateral arena. 

Another MoU that Dr. Douglas signed is with Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, India to enhance cooperation in sports.  

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya stated, “we signed an MoU focusing on several key areas: athlete training and competition.” He further stated the emphasis of the discussion is on sports science and infrastructure, it also includes anti-doping programs, coach training and technical assistance, and youth exchanges in multiple disciplines.  

Dr. Douglas and Dr. Mandaviya shared that both are excited for the opportunities this partnership will bring to both nations. 

On Tuesday, Dr. Douglas also held significant talks with Union Minister of India, J. P. Nadda, to discuss the cooperation in the health sector, focusing on medical education, pharmaceuticals, non-communicable diseases, and medical value travel. 

Earlier this week Dr. Douglas also met Jitin Prasada, India’s Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, to discuss trade, investment, and tourism cooperation. 

This visit is marked as historic, being the first ever visit by any Foreign Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis to India. His visit will conclude on August 9.
