The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has launched the calendar of events for 46th Independence Day. The events last from 15th September to 3rd November. This years theme for the Independence Day is Peyti Nao, Kado Nau (Our Country, Our Gift).
The Cultural Competition events will start the first event West & South West semi-final match at Old Mill Cultural Centre on Friday, 4th of October. National Miss Wob Dwiyet Pageant that’s scheduled for Wednesday 23rd of October.
Ministry of Education, Vocational Training &National Excellence have said that Patriotism and Heritage Month turned into to be held in October for all Primary and Secondary colleges
For Cultural Heritage events, the first will start from September 15th – 22nd, celebrating Kalinago week from October 7th to October 11th . History Week is scheduled, which will come under the theme “Native Tongues.” It is slated to commence the celebrations for the 46th Independence Day on the Island from the 7th to the 11th of October. There is an E. O. Leblanc Lecture on Thursday, October 10th.
A month early to the 46th Independence Day, the very famous TITIWI Festival is scheduled between September 27th and September 29th. It is followed by one of the most anticipated uptown Food and Cultural Festival Flavours of the World on Sunday,September 29th . The Independence Art Exibition is scheduled for Monday,September 30th .
Following up with World Creole Music Festival onFriday October 25th to Sunday October 27th at the iconic Windsor Park Sports Stadium. This year’s star-studded lineup includes Kassav, Nadia Batson, Umpa, Subance, Mr. Ridge & Dirty Dawg Pudaz, Asa Bantan, Signal Band, Tian Winter, Skinny, Voice, Midnight Groovers, Gramps Morgan, and more.
Events under Kweyol Culture will start with the first event to be held on Jounne Panyen on Friday, October 04. Jounne Chapo Pat is planned for next Friday, 11 of October. Afro Hair Day which is also known and celebrated as Had Kweyol Friday celebrations will be celebrated on October 18th.
A national costume parade takes place on Friday, October 25th, which is a very popular day on the island where everyone wears traditional clothing and parades through the streets with pride.
National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving is scheduled for September 21 and 22. While the official opening ceremony is scheduled for September 27 and the Independence Parade on September 28. National Heritage Day will held on October 20. The National Youth Assembly is held on November 1. These patriotic celebrations culminate with National Community Service Day on November 11.
