Nevis: The celebration for the 50th anniversary of the Culturama has officially opened in Nevis with the staging of the traditional dances, colourful costumes, lively music and homecoming parties.
The opening of the C50 has paid tribute to the vibrant culture and heritage of Nevis as the patrons were welcomed with cultural performances. Premier Mark Brantley also attended the ceremony and experienced the vibes on the stage with the performances of the different folklore.
The Bull, Masquerade, Big Drum, Moko Jumbies, Jumping Clowns, String Band and the Johnnie Walkers have performed at Nevis Culturama Festival 2024. The anniversary is being celebrated under the theme- “Celebrating Culture, Embracing History, Its Culturama 50.”
The patrons were welcomed with the performance of “We are Coming” song by the Honeybees Stringband as their music and lyrics were composed by DaddyPlay Howell. The song was sunge by DaddyPlay with the first original tune by a Stringband in decades.
The official homecoming celebration kicked off in Nevis on Thursday with the celebration of the Culturama 50 Golden Jubilee at MGR Park. Now, from July to August 2024, a diverse range of activities have been scheduled to celebrate the culture of the island nation.
The pageantries such as Ms Culture Swimwear and Mr Kool Contest and Bank of Nevis Ltd Ms Culture Queen Pageant will showcase the talents of the local people of Nevis. They will be given a platform to display their unique talents through the platters of the culture.
Other activities for the Nevis Culturama Festival 2024 will include Homecoming Day with various events at Nevisian Heritage Village, Poets in the Square at War Memorial Square, Junior Cultural Street Parade at Charlestown and other activities.
The Emancipation J’ouvert Jump Up and Culturama 50 Grand Street Parade will also create the lively atmosphere in the island nation. Cultural Food Fair and Culturama 50 Emancipation Conert will also take place at MGR Park.
