The CARICOM Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality, also called CROSQ, announced the appointment of Ezra D Ledger as its new Chairperson. Ledger was appointed for the position during the 45th CROSQ Council Meeting. The tenure of the representative in this position lasts for one year, after which a new Chairperson is appointed.
Verne Emmanuel, Director of the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards, was looking over the responsibility of the role, which is now overtaken by Ledger. Ezra D Ledger was already holding the position of the Executive Director of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Bureau of Standards before being appointed as CROSQ Chairperson.
CROSQ represents the fifteen members of the Caribbean Community, and its headquarters is situated in the island nation of Barbados. The works of CROSQ are reported to COTED, the Council for Trade and Economic Development. The organization pays attention to strengthening quality infrastructure, competitiveness, and global market resilience for the region.
The public announcement of Ezra D Ledger’s appointment as new Chairperson was made by the CROSQ with a press release on Monday. CROSQ mentioned in the release, “Ledger’s appointment was confirmed during the InDiCo-Global European Standardisation System (ESS) Workshop and the 45th CROSQ Council Meeting held in St Vincent and the Grenadines.”
The event organized by the CROSQ was attended by several regional, national, and international leaders along with stakeholders from across the Caribbean. The focus of the gathering was to explore pivotal initiatives that could help in the advancement of quality infrastructure and standardization across member nations of the Caribbean Community.
To support Ezra D Ledger in the position of CROSQ Chairperson, the officials appointed Jose Trejo to handle the responsibilities of Vice Chairperson. Jose Trejo is the Executive Director of the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards. Trejo will look over the workflow of the Human Resource Committee.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the Bureau of Standards Jamaica, Dr Velton Gooden, is set to lead the finance committee. The members of CARICOM and CROSQ officials expressed their expectations from the new representatives at the top position to make impactful efforts to enhance regional standards and quality.
The CROSQ Council is a platform prepared by the collaboration of the member countries of the Caribbean community, which comprises the heads of national standards bodies. The vision of the leaders with this platform is to facilitate trade within the region and the CARICOM Single Market and Economy.
The focus of CROSQ is also extended to facilitating trade with international partners along with taking steps to improve the quality of services and goods in the region. Implementation of the CARICOM standards works as the key motive of CROSQ in order to promote economic development.
