In the CPL 2024, The Guyana Amazon Warriors outplayed St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots with 30 runs short of their 138-run target. Shimron Hetmyer, Romario Shepherd, and Shamar Joseph, the Warriors, dominated the match on their home ground at the Providence Stadium, Guyana.
The Patriots won the match toss, elected to bowl first, and limited their opponents with a total score of 137/8. In the very first few overs, Nedd shocked the Warriors by taking two of the most important wickets of the openers, Tim Robinson and Kevin Sinclair for ducks.
From there, the Warriors had a rough start as the Patriots lost Shai Hope’s wicket for nine runs, right to Kyle Mayers, leaving the Warriors with a mediocre at 28/3 in 3.3 overs.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors then sent one of the Shimron Hetmyer, who plays in the middle order, to change the match momentum. Hetmyer came to bat at the number four, and he took advantage of the powerplay overs. He played aggressive batting as he came up with a winning shot, smashing 63 from 33 balls through the help of five sixes and four fours.
Shimron Hetmyer and Moeen Ali’s 50-run partnership led to the revival of Warriors in the game. Moeen Ali provided full support to Hetmyer and scored only 10 off 22 balls.
As the Warriors duo grew into a solid partnership, Patriots Tabraiz Shamsi took the wickets of Hetmyer and Ali in the same over, leaving the Warriors struggling at 97/6.
Ashmead Nedd’s outstanding bowling in the middle overs made the Warriors collapse their batting lineup, adding two more wickets. Another setback to the Warriors was seen when Ryan John clean bowled Dwaine Pretorius with a caught and bowl delivery. By then, the Warriors were in serious trouble at 106-8.
However, Romario Shepherd’s came to bat at number nine position, helping the Warrior avoid a complete collapse. Shepherd outstanding performance with a remarkable score of 34* off 22, inclusive of three sixes and the one boundary. His efforts led the Warriors to a competitive total of 137-8 in 20 overs.
Hunting a total score of 138/8, patriots openers Evin Lewis and Andre Fletcher managed to score 23 runs before losing their first wicket around 5.3 overs. Moeen Ali, who had been quiet with the bat, turned the tables with the ball for Warries.
The Patriot’s captain and skipper, Andre Fletcher, was outplayed by Gudakesh Motie. After that, the Patriots lost their moment, losing wickets in a very short span of time with three wickets at 57-3. The Patriots were finally all out for 107 in 18.3 overs.
