A burst of volcanic earthquakes has been recorded beneath northern Dominica at 12:45 AM on 16th July. This information has been confirmed by the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI-SRC).
The UWI-SRC shared that as of 7:30 AM 345 earthquakes have been recorded in sequence. But after 7:30 AM the rate of events has decreased, the statement said.
Further, it is to be noted that some of the tremors were sufficiently large and could be felt, but the UWI-SRC shared that the magnitude was less than 3.5.
Usually, magnitude 3.5 is considered below then the threshold for SRC’s social media posting.
Additionally, the Seismic Research Centre says that the centre is currently monitoring the activity and will provide the details and regular updates to the office of Disaster Management in Dominica.
Also, recently significant changes in the Boling Lake in Dominica could be noticed. As it experienced a drastic shift in water levels over the past few days.
The University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre reported that the similar fluctuation could be noticed during the month of March and April but this time the situation seems critical. Following this the monitoring from local and regional authorities have increased.
