Belize: Belize City is set to see a great transformation in its infrastructure with the announcement of the new design for the Belcan Bridge. This initiative is a joint project between the Republic of China (Taiwan), Belize City Council and Government of Belize.
The new design of the bridge mainly focuses on safety, strength, and durability over time. Moreover, it complies with international standards and represents a part of Belize’s commitment to upgrading infrastructure for the future.
Taiwan is providing grant support for the project which shows the friendship between both nations. The Belize City Council will be in charge of the project at the local level, with the support of the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government. In addition, there are several government agencies and experts from the technical field who are involved in this project.
In order to maintain a fair and open process, a public Request for Bids has been announced for the construction of the bridge. In this way, multiple qualified contractors having the required skills and experience will be able to compete for this vital work.
The unveiling of the bridge design is a landmark moment for Belize City. With the cooperation of the Belize Government, Taiwan, and the City Council, the project was also underlined as a means to raise the living standards of the citizens of the island country.
The initiative is part of a comprehensive plan aimed at the successful deployment of sustainable and inclusive infrastructure across the country. It is also designed to ensure that the project gives the local and tourist populations the maximum advantage while also leading to the city’s transport network being strengthened and getting it ready for future growth.
