The site visit, which was conducted by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, helped the officials to understand the challenges the project faces and their solutions. The project, which includes reconstruction of a road measuring 1.3 kilometres, a sidewalk measuring 740 metres, a drain measuring 142 metres and other soil retention and water-management infrastructure, is expected to be completed in December 2025.

The work started in April 2024. Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell, also the minister for infrastructure, visited the site of the EC$16 million Cliff to Woodlands Roundabout Project along with the road project team and officials of the infrastructure ministry in May.

The project, undertaken by the Consolidated Contractors Company Caribbean Inc. (CCCCI) located in St. George’s, aims at enhanced connectivity and improved transportation efficiency. It will involve extensive civil works, including stabilization of slope, drainage, retaining wall, reconstruction of road and repair.

Mitchell, who spoke with members of the project team and contractors at the site, expressed satisfaction over the work’s progress. He said the site of the project was challenging since there is a precipice on one side and rock on the other and the houses are located too close to the road. The PM said it would require special engineering skills and cooperation from local residents for the work to be completed successfully.

He also thanked the local people for their cooperation and acknowledged that the work caused inconvenience to the public since the road had to be blocked off keeping in mind public safety. Mitchell said some of the private properties in the area would be affected and his administration wanted to keep them in the loop to facilitate the entire process. The PM also spoke to some residents.

Speaking about the road project, Mitchell said while the Woodlands Roundabout will be remodelled, a roundabout will also be created at the top of the Cliff Woburn Junction. He said the project involves a lot of work and challenges since several important roads pass through the area.

Raul Gonzales, a project manager of CCCCI, said the earthwork phase is a key one in the construction work. He emphasized that the design of the road project focuses on durability and longevity to ensure that the infrastructure remains resilient for years to come.

In October 2024, the Office of the Prime Minister of Grenada lauded the government’s initiative to rehabilitate the Clif Road saying it showcased its commitment to progress and putting the right priorities first. The office said the excavation phase was complete and the stage was set for the subsequent phases of construction of concrete retaining walls, drains, and culverts.

However, in December 2024, PM Mitchell said the government was not satisfied with the pace of the work on the Woodlands to the Clif Road project. It was one of the issues that he mentioned in a year-end interview. He said he met the contractor and consultant and told them about the government’s concern. The PM said it is expected that the work is ramped up significantly. He said the road is less than a mile in length but serves a significant purpose of connecting a number of important roads.
