Antigua and Barbuda: A well-known politician and Member of Parliament of Antigua and Barbuda, Asot Michael, was brutally murdered on Tuesday morning. The body of Michael was found at his residence in Dry Hill in a pool of blood, sending shockwaves across the island nation.
The untimely and tragic death of the 54-year-old has made everyone shocked and confused about the reason behind his suspected murder, with Prime Minister Gaston Browne also expressing his ‘deep shock.’
The Prime Minister said that the death of Asot Michael is a profound loss to his family, friends and constituents of St Peter. He further expressed his sincere condolences to his son, Nigel; his sisters, Teresa-Anne and Soraya; his extended family; and the many friends who are grieving his loss.
It is noted that the body of the politician was found by his housemaids lying on the floor inside his residence with his t-shirt pulled above from his waist. The maids also saw blood spilled over the floor, following which they reported the incident to the police officials.
As soon as the authorities reached the crime site, they sealed the area and suspected it was a murder because of the blood spilled all around him and over him.
While the chilling details of the alleged murder have not been revealed yet, the police are conducting a high-level investigation to find the suspects behind this brutal incident which claimed the life of a well-known personality of Antigua and Barbuda.
Meanwhile, the residents were a scene in anguish as they gathered outside the residence of Michael, with several of them expressing their sadness, saying that they had known the victim for decades and he was a good individual who had assisted numerous people over the years in a number of ways.
The police officials noted that they are currently examining all aspects surrounding the politician’s tragic death and will keep the general public updated.
