St Kitts and Nevis: The world’s largest cruise ship- Icon of the Seas docked at Port Zante for making its eighth call to St Kitts and Nevis. The thousands of passengers explored the island nation with the display of the cultural richness and warmth of the Kittitian people.
The arrival of the Icon of the Seas also generated income for stakeholders in the tourism sector including travel operators, tour guides, street vendors, small businesses, taxi operators, hotel owners, and food stallers.
The passengers also ventured on guided tours, patronized the various stores at Port Zante and even had their hair braided.
The Icon of the Seas is owned by Royal Caribbean International and represented the first ship in the Icon class. Icon sails seven-night itineraries in the Caribbean from Miami, each voyage stopping at a variety of destinations, from Puerto Rico to St Kitts and Nevis to Cozumel, Mexico. Most will stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas.
The first voyage of the cruise ship was commenced with its sailing from Miami in December 2023 and docked at St Kitts and Nevis for the first time in January 2023. For the first arrival, the cruise ship came up with 5,000 travellers who explored the country in a unique way.
The Icon of the Seas has a maximum capacity of 7,600 passengers and 2,350 crew across 20 decks, 7 pools, 6 waterslides, and more than 40 restaurants and bars. The local community also extended their market options and enhance the potential of St Kitts and Nevis.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew also welcomed the Icon of the Seas and said that the tourism sector has experienced remarkable growth in recent times. The arrival of the world’s largest cruise ship has provided a significant boost to the travel options and local offerings of the country.
