PM Drew Visits New York For 79th UNGA Session

PM drew called attention to the important role of the diaspora in the national development of St Kitts and Nevis in New York.

Prime Minister Terrance Drew highlights the importance of the diaspora in national development during the 79th UN General Assembly.

Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew recently visited New York for the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Saturday. At the event, he engaged in discussions and small talks with the foreign nationals of St Kitts and Nevis and other diplomats.

PM drew called attention to the important role of the diaspora in the national development of St Kitts and Nevis and encouraged them to continue contributing to the progress.

PM Drew said he was delighted and that they could build this nation even when living in foreign countries. Pointed out that three out of the last three guest speakers at the Prime Minister’s Independence Lecture Series were from the diaspora, which reflects their willingness to be real participants in nation-building. He also recited a tag line and assured that they can build a better St Kitts and Nevis. 

PM Drew, met with the Secretary General of the United Nations- António Guterres, on Sunday afternoon, where he briefly touched on matters concerning the small island nation. PM Terrance Drew said that climate change is the biggest issue today and that developed countries should step forward for these issues.

He also talked to the UN Secretary-General and brought his focus to the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index and the requirement of concessional financing.

Additionally, at the meeting, some discussions featured the role and importance of the Small Island Developing States, including the St Kitts and Nevis. The conversation also gave insight on how climate change has affected the small states and their survival.

Besides that, he also met other nationals of St Kitts and Nevis at the Independence Diaspora Dialogue on Sunday. This was the second encounter with the people in New York, where he raised discussions and talked on different issues of national concern.

Secondly, PM Drew attended was the 10th annual Independence Breakfast of the Kittitians and Nevisians Association in New York. The meeting went on for a while. They had conversations about the development at St Kitts and Nevis and other concerns related to the lives of the nationals residing in the country. 

Euriel Williams, Avril Francis, Eustace Queeley, and Aubrey Webster were honored with awards for their contribution in the development of to St Kitts and Nevis. These awards were presented by PM Drew, who congratulated the four national winners.  He noted that it was always a pleasure to interact with the nationals who are residing in foreign lands and working for the Federation.
