West Indies: West Indies lost the second test match of the series against South Africa on Sunday by 40 runs at their home ground in Guyana National Stadium. The latter team set the target of 247 runs in the second inning and restricted the former to 222 runs.
West Indies have played the second and last test match of the series against South Africa from August 15 to 17, 2024. In the match, the bowlers have showcased skills, but the batters of South Africa remained quite successful.
On the first day, West Indies bowlers managed to restrict South Africa to 160 runs by making them all out. Shamar Joseph took five-wicket haul and become the second athlete to score the record in the test format.
However, on the second inning, when West Indies came to crease, South Africa bowlers also showcased their prowess and restrict the team at 144 runs. Further, they gave the target of 247 runs by making 246 runs in their second inning due to which West Indies fell short of 40 runs and lost the last game of the series.
On the second day, Jayden Seales took 6-wicket haul for West Indies by playing 18.4 overs. He got 61 runs with 4 maiden overs and played with an economy of 3.27.
Notably, the first match of the series went into the draw category due to the 92 knocks from Alick Athanaze of West Indies. He fell short for his test format century, but his knocks made the team escape the defeat from South Africa.
The test format has not been playing in the favour of the West Indies team as they recently returned from Britain by losing the test cricket series. In the three match series, the team did not manage to win one and lost the trophy at Britain’s home ground.
Now, West Indies will play the T20 cricket series against South Africa on August 23, 25, and 27, 2024 at Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad and Tobago. The series will conclude the tour of South Africa to West Indies and determine the winner of the friendly matches.
