Barbados: Although the dengue fever outbreak has been declared over by the Ministry of Health and Wellness, the authorities are continuing the precautionary measures and have announced the schedule of the mosquito control exercise in the St Philip and Christ Church localities for the upcoming week.
It is to be noted that the Vector Control Unit, Barbados, has been continuously conducting fogging exercises across the island nation and from Monday, August 19 to Friday, August 23 the unit will turn its attention to St Philip and Christ Church.
During the week, the unit will visit various districts in both communities between Monday and Wednesday.
The shared schedule reveals that on Monday, August 19 the team will spray the Four Square, Market Road, , Woodbourne, Bright Hill, Berlin Road, Nos. 1 to 3 Lowther’s Park, Nos.1 to 3 Walronds, Bright Hill, and surrounding areas.
The communities that will be visited on Tuesday, August 20 are Packers, Woodbourne, Yorkshire Road, and Nos. 1 to 3 Highland.
On Wednesday, August 21 the areas that will be covered for fogging will include Casuarina Drive, Country View Estate, Sweet Street, Cedar Avenue, Fairview and Lowther’s Hill.
The Vector Control Unit will target communities of Christ Church on Thursday and Friday.
The areas that will be fogged on Thursday, August 22 will include Lead Vale, Jade Circle, Mayfair Terrace, Hurley Drive, Searles, and Lowlands Park.
On the concluding day that is Friday, August 23 the fogging exercise will be conducted at Fair View, Glade, Nos. 1 to 3 Searles and neighbouring districts.
Further the Vector Control Unit shared that the timings to be followed by the teams for the fogging will be between 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM every day. Additionally, the residents have been advised to open the windows and doors of their houses to allow the spray to enter.
The team has shared strict directives to not let the children play during the spray. Also, in case the schedule is affected due to any uncontrollable circumstances the Unit will return and complete the fogging.
Significantly, the dengue outbreak that started in October 2023 has ended in May 2024, this has been reported by the Ministry of Health and Wellness. Also, during this period four deaths have been recorded due to dengue.
As of June 30, 2024, there were 1,133 confirmed cases of dengue and 3,303 were suspected cases.
Further, the Ministry has advised the residents and the authorities to be vigilant and follow the precautionary measures.
