Several communities of Clarendon in Jamaica have been imposed on a 96-hour curfew. This decision came after eight people in several gun attacks on Cherry Tree Lane, Four Paths in Clarendon, were killed during the Sunday midnight.
It is to be noted that the areas that were affected are Cherry Tree Lane, Western Park, Havannah Heights, York Town and Treadlight.
The authorities reported that the curfew began on August 12, Monday at 10:00 AM and will continue till 10:00 AM on Friday, August 16.
Significantly, Prime Minister Andrew Holness expressed grief and condolences to the ones who lost their life during this deadly attack. He further committed that strong action would be taken against those involved.
The details reveal that this fatal attack resulted in the killing of eight people, including an 8-year-old child. During the incident, nine others were injured.
Following this tragic incident and as part of the heightened security measures, 96-hour curfew has been imposed. Also, the Jamaica Defence Force has deployed a special team to assist the Jamaica Constabulary Force in searching for criminals and ensuring the safety of the residents.
The areas on which the curfew has been imposed are Western Park community, Cherry Tree Lane, Treadlight, York Town area and Havannah Heights.
Curfew Areas in the Western Park Community:
North: The areas under effect are Garvey and Treadlight Streets to Treadlight Common and Red Square
East: Lanes from Treadlight Common and Red Square to Harris Street and Eve Terrace are placed under curfew.
South: Areas beginning from Eve Terrace and Harris Street to Evans Drive and Western Park Road are under effect.
West: The track from Evans Drive and Western Park Road to Garvey Street and Treadlight Street are the lanes on which the curfew has been imposed.
The areas in Cherry Tree Lane that are under effect are:
North: Muirhead Avenue
East: Muirhead Avenue to the Bustamante Highway
South: Bustamante Highway
West: Bustamante Highway to Muirhead Avenue.
The areas in Havannah Heights are:
North: From where the sign of ‘Welcome to Woodside Community’ is marked till the incomplete concrete dwelling to the train line.
East: Alongside Havannah Heights till the Woodside Roadway to the intersection of Jacob Hut.
South: From Jacob Hut to a yellow one-bedroom concrete structure sideways the gully bank.
West: From the abovementioned areas till the unfinished concrete dwelling at the end of the dirt track to the train line.
The areas in the Treadlight area under curfew are:
North: North Street and West Park Avenue till the vegetated area.
East: 860 metres to the vegetated area.
South: 1920 metres along the vegetated area.
West: 830 metres along the vegetated area to the joint of North Street and West Park Avenue.
The York Town area:
North: 5 Km from Comfort Road to York Town.
East: 3 Km along a line from York Town to Parnassus.
South: 7 km along the line from Rhymesbury to Parnassus.
West: 1 km from Rhymesbury to Comfort.
The authorities have stated that during the curfew hours, all people within the boundaries must remain within their homes. In case of moving outside, permission should be granted by the ground commander.
Further, Prime Minister Holness visited the community, met the affected families, and assured them that the administration would nab the culprits and take strict action.
