The World Creole Music Festival is scheduled from Friday, October 25, to Sunday, October 27, at the iconic Windsor Park Sports Stadium.
The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has announced the events for the 46th Independence Day, celebrated on November 3. 46th Flag Day is celebrated under National Emblems Week (Oct 10-14), which recognizes and respects the national symbols. The highly anticipated Flag Day motorcade is set to take off on Monday 14th, 2024. The theme for the 46th Independence Day is Peyti Nao, Kado Nau (Our Country, Our Gift).
Ministry of Sports, Youth, Culture and Community Development has shared the poster and details of the Flag Day motorcade. The motorcade will begin from Raseou along the West Coast to the end of Dublanc. It will make go around the city and whistle stops at schools and many places on the West Coast.
The committee invites all the residents of the nation to join this event and make it a memorable and patriotic moment to be cherished throughout the year.
The Cultural Division introduced Flag Day to be included in the Independence Celebrations in order to allow the people to acknowledge and respect the flag. Dominica’s Flag symbolizes national pride and identity for the Dominicans.
The flag comprises a red disc that carries an emblem of a blue-chested Sisserou Parrot on a twig. The parrot must always face the flag pole. It is surrounded by ten green stars in lime color. The ten stars are depicted in a thin yellow line.
This is overlaid by three verticals and three horizontal stripes of yellow, black, and white to give a general appearance of a tri-colored cross going around the general background color of forest green.
The event encourages the citizens to come forward and join together in the spirit of solidarity in celebrating Independence Day. On this day, the residents of the nation reach out to one another with love, support, and compassion. Dominicans, whether they staying on the islands or living abroad, are asked to display their flags throughout the day.
The event brings the whole nation together. The first official flag of Dominica was adopted officially on November 3, 1978, and was hoisted at the Government headquarters. Earlier that year, Alwin Bully’s design won the national flag competition. In addition, most national flags contain not more than four colors, but the national flag of Dominica contains eight colors.
Following up, the other event lineup is the World Creole Music Festival on Friday, October 25, to Sunday, October 27, at the iconic Windsor Park Sports Stadium. Afro Hair Day, which is also popularly celebrated as Had Kweyol Friday celebrations, will be held on October 18.
