A Tropical wave currently located in the eastern Atlantic is heading towards the Caribbean and US with 70% chances of development into a tropical depression over the next seven days.
According to the National Hurricane Center’s latest update on September 14th, 2025, the system is moving west-northwestward and is expected to become better organised by midweek. Meteorologist from Florida’s WINK News, Matt Devitt explained that the scattered storms associated with the wave are likely to turn into a low-pressure system by Wednesday.
Tropical Storm Gabrielle may strengthen to hurricane
Early models suggest that the system could become a tropical storm Gabrielle and possibly even reach a hurricane strength over the weekend. The tropical depression is expected to make a curve from US, however further data and research over days is required to confirm this track.
“The positive trend has been our friend when it comes to long range track. The majority of ensembles / possible model tracks have this curving away from Florida and potentially even the entire United States. Although a great sign, we still need a few more days to confirm, especially after it tries to form” he stated.
Residents advised to stay cautious
Residents of Bermuda and nearby Caribbean islands are advised to monitor this system carefully as it arrives. Meteorologist Matt Devitt has also urged calm, emphasizing that there’s no immediate cause for alarm but further emphasized that vigilance is required as the situation develops.
