Trinidad and Tobago: A Trinidadian woman has been detained by the authorities under Homeland Security orders after she allegedly called Venezuela to attack the Prime Minister’s private residence. The order of detention was signed by the Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander on November 12 and gazetted this Wednesday.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian Newspaper reports, the suspect behind the conspiracy is identified as Olive Green-Jack of Diego Martin who made and published posts directed to the Venezuelan government in an attempt to influence public opinion in a manner “likely to be prejudicial to public safety.”
Authorities of Trinidad and Tobago stated that they have detained the woman who posted pictures of the PM and her private home in the Philippines, on her social media post and asked Venezuela to attack the residence.
Officials further stated that her posts invited violence against the Prime Minister, the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, and the members of the public by Venezuela and/or external persons while creating what was described as an “imminent threat to public safety.”
Also “these kinds of people encourage other nation’s governments to attack another country’s government and their people, however they forget they are also part of the same country and if anything bad happens to any nation they will eventually get affected by that too” they emphasised.
Further the woman Green-Jack, resident of Sargangar Trace, Morne Coco Road, Diego Martin, will be held at the Women’s Prison under the terms of the detention order, said authorities.
Her detention forms part of a wider crackdown, as the government also detained other three individuals under separate orders for their alleged involvement in organised crime and gang activity.
These cases highlight the growing concerns in the country over the use of social media platforms to incite violence and the government’s heightened response to threats against national security.
