Trinidad and Tobago: A Level 1 yellow alert has been issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) which reports that very poor weather conditions which might affect Trinidad at large and also to some degree Tobago this morning.
It is reported that there is a 60% chance of isolated heavy rain and thunderstorms. The latest from the TTMS report says the worst of the weather will start out over southern and eastern areas which will then gradually make its way across both islands by nightfall.
Also, reports of strong winds in association with heavy rain which will make some streets turn into temporary rivers, causing disruption to traffic flow, and tossing anything in water if not secured. Mariners are warned that the weather will bring in such poor conditions that it will be impossible to hold a secure anchor in open waters.
Moreover, people living in flood-prone or low-lying areas are being advised to tie down loose furniture, unplug appliances to avoid water which might enter the houses, and also to keep a radio nearby for sudden weather bulletins. Also, drivers are advised to reduce speed even when rain is at a minimum as the next downpour may transform a quiet road into a slick danger in minutes.
A Yellow Level alert – the first of the new rainy season, has now flashed across the screens, warning everyone that the June-to-November season is open and the odds of flash floods and landslides are climbing.
