The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) gave its fans what they needed on a weekend as on Sunday, 17 August, 2025, two teams collided giving fans a match they were very excited and eager to watch. The Trinbago Knight Riders got their first win of CPL 2025 against St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in a high scoring match at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium in Basseterre.
The Trinbago Knight Riders registered a 12-run-victory with a commendable innings from Colin Munro, who scored a century and played an innings of 120 runs off 57 balls. The patriots also showcased great spirit in chasing the high scored target.
The Patriots won the toss and they elected to bowl first, and batting first, the Knight Riders scored a total of 231 for 5 in 20 overs. The most important contribution was of Colin Munro, the New Zealand national who shined in a stand out innings by scoring 14 boundaries and 6 sixes. He not only dominated the match but also made a new franchise record for the highest individual score in CPL history.
The chase for the Patriots began with a good start as both the openers Kyle Mayers (scored 32) and Andre Fletcher (scored 41) delivered a 80 run partnership and maintained the run rate in the early overs of the match. Further came the turning point as the Leg spinner USman Tariq stepped forward and bowled a spell taking 4 wickets, giving only 33 runs.
Tariq’s bowling disturbed the rhythm of Patriots and dismissed the middle order and turned the match back into the favour of Knight Riders. After Tariq’s spell, captain of Patriots, Jason Holder took the initiative scoring a quick and needed 44 runs off 22 balls. Jason kept the contest alive till the death overs.
In the end of the match Patriots fell just short of the target scoring 219/7. The Player of the Match was given to Munro, because of his century. While the Knight Riders were praised for their class performance, the SKN Patriots also earned the praise of fans for their determined chase.
Fans of the CPL 2025 are expecting that Patriots will deliver strong challenges to other teams as the season will move further.
