The promised aid and donations from the UK, intended to assist the island in overcoming the effects of Hurricane Beryl, are expected to reach St Vincent and the Grenadines in the coming days aboard a cargo ship MV Beautranga.

The aid includes generators, temporary shelter, containers containing private donations, infrastructure and rebuilding equipment, which will help rebuild the island that was majorly hit by the Beryl.

The officials noted that the supplies are being sent through a shipping company that is based in UK with the name Kestrel Liner Agencies, that has partnered with Europe Caribbean Line and its ship MV Beautranga and also with several commercial suppliers.

The agency shared an update that the cargo ship Beautranga is moving across the North Atlantic and is anticipated to dock in St Vincent on or around August 24th.

Further they shared that earlier they were planning to dock at the Kingstown port, but due to the storm damage, the authorities have now decided to dock at the Campden Park.

Additionally, the Kestrel Liner Agencies, which has staff and partners at several sites across the Caribbean. Its founder and CEO Andy Thorne shared that as soon as he saw the devastation occurring across the Caribbean Islands, he knew that he had to do his bit.

He further added that as the hurricane hit the Caribbean my first thoughts were for my team and their families. Then he thought of how he could plan and implement to get the aid to the areas that were badly hit.

Moreover, Marlon Gibson, the operations manager in St Vincent, Kestrel, stated that the aid coming from the UK has wide varieties of donations and aid, some personally addressed donations, shelter and infrastructure. He said as the ship unloads, the team will be working with logistics and recovery experts from the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) and World Food Programme and so that all the aid equipment and addressed donations reach their intended destinations.

It is important to note that UK’s Foreign Secretary David Lammy on July 5 announced support to Caribbean countries that have been majorly affected by Hurricane Beryl, the countries to which immediate aid was dispatched to are St Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada.
