George Gilbert, Director of the Public Works Department, reaches the St. Peter main road to follow up on the progress of the construction of the main road. This project was announced by Prime Minister Terrance Drew back in August 2023. The entire project has been long awaited by the people of St. Kitts and Nevis as it affected the traffic management in the county.
Mr George Gilbert claimed that the entire project is estimated to be 3.86 Km long and will cover four different lanes. This will allow easy traffic management and will reduce the time people spend traveling to their destinations.
Mr Alexis Hazel, Owner of Rock and Dirt, has conveyed that they are four months into this project. He also claimed that they have been working significantly on the drains from the bake bases. They are constantly covering the drains with manholes to avoid any tragedy in the future. Though it consists of a lot of human efforts, it is taking longer than expected.
Mr. Alexis also made a statement while addressing the road progress: “Retaining walls is of great importance for life, and it’s his responsibility to perform the rationing wall task in the right manner.” Contractor teams are working on the upper end of drains and other paving aspects.
Three teams have been brought down to Nevis Island to assist with the labor for the base and pave aspects. An estimation of 95 people has been made in this entire project. Mr George Gilbert has ensured that all these people are working together on a daily basis to fix the road as soon as possible.
All four lanes are being fixed so that traffic from these places goes smoothly. Mr Alexis has apologized to the general public for the long time the team has taken to fix the road. They have requested that people keep themselves updated about the progress timings and schedule their routes accordingly.
He also made it crucial for the public to listen to the radio to keep themselves updated about the progress of the road and avoid jamming the nearby lanes while the Work is being continued.
Prime Minister Terrance Drew also updated their official Facebook handle on the progress of St. Peter’s main road and urged the public to give their maximum cooperation and support to them.
He said, “Work is progressing steadily on St. Peter’s Main Road. The rest of the island was resurfaced, and St. Peter’s was excluded. I made a commitment that I would do the St. Peter’s Road, and I am happy it is progressing well.”
