SKN basketball team showcased team spirit in the U15 basketball tournament in Sint Maarten.
The Men’s U15 basketball team of St. Kitts and Nevis has joined the Paradise Showdown U15 Basketball Tournament in St. Maarten. The tournament was started on Saturday, 5th October, and will run till Friday, 11th October, 2024.
St. Kitts and Nevis citizens are supporting the young basketball players who are selected for Paradise Showdown U15 basketball tournament. Troy Liburd, Minister at Nevis Island Administration (NIA) met several representatives of the federation and expressed his excitement on social media.
“I was proud to support our team SKN at the Paradise Showdown U15 Basketball Tournament in Sint Maarten this weekend. It was a pleasure to connect with the Federation’s representatives,” he wrote on his social media handle.
The Saint Kitts and Nevis Men’s basketball team is the national team of St. Kitts and Nevis. The governing organization of the team is St. Kitts Amateur Basketball Association. The team has been a part of International Basketball Federation since 1979. Now, young boys are showing interest in playing basketball and have joined the Amateur Basketball Association. Recently, U15 basketball team has participated in Paradise Showdown Tournament.
In 2019, the Amateur Basketball Association of St. Kitts and Nevis declared a break from national and international competitions. This is because, the newly appointed President wanted to restructure the team and administration. The President of the organization addressed to FIBA, that the club will focus on youths and the upcoming summer camps.
The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis conducts several tournaments for different sports in the country to encourage young athletes to join sports. Basketball, Football, Cricket, and Soccer are the major games played in St. Kitts and Nevis.
The Sports Department of Nevis is committed to improve the facilities and opportunities for its athletes. Recently, in August 2024, St. Kitts and Nevis announced a partnership with India for the development of sports in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of St. Kitts and Nevis, Denzil Douglas, signed the agreement during his visit to India. This bilateral relationship between St. Kitts and Nevis and India focuses on development of sports sectors and the encouragement of young athletes.
