The Citizen Security Task Force conducted an important meeting that discussed various measures to deal with violence and crime in the country through a public health approach.

The Citizen Security Task Force, in collaboration with the Nevis Island Administration, had an important session on crime and violence in St. Kitts and Nevis. Many Premiers of St. Kitts and Nevis attended this important meeting and had a thorough discussion regarding the ongoing crime and violence in the country. Various preventive measures were also discussed in the session to reduce these major issues in the country.

This session consisted of various important discussions on crime and violence in the country. It focused on the public health approach, focusing on the root causes, such as poverty and lack of education. The meeting also focused on targeting young children in the country and understanding their psychology through different methods. This important initiative was given a green signal by Prime Minister Terrance Drew in order to maintain law and order in the country.

Prime Minister Terrance Drew appreciated all the Premiers who were present in this important session. He posted about the session on his official Facebook handle and said, “The Citizen Security Task Force, in collaboration with the Nevis Island Administration, held an important discussion as part of the National Consultation on Crime and Violence. I want to thank the Premier and all those who participated.”

On 21 September 2024, Prime Minister Terrance Drew started an important campaign to look after the rise in cases of violence and crime in the country. This campaign focused on understanding various challenges and ways to deal with them. Various preventive measures were also discussed to understand the kind of violence in the nation.

PM Drew talked about some important steps that will help in dealing with the ongoing crime in the country. These consisted of Public Health as a Framework, an Intersectoral Approach to Citizen Security, A Data-Driven Effort, and A Call to Action for the Youth.

This initiative has already been in talks since the beginning of the year. Various people of St. Kitts and Nevis have already been part of this campaign and are giving their full support.

PM Drew requested the people of St. Kitts and Nevis to come together and support each other so the country could function well and look after its problems.

PM Drew made an important statement: “The approach towards the country’s betterment acknowledges that such violence can only be addressed with more integrated whole-of-society approaches rather than a criminal justice follow-up alone. It should acknowledge broader social issues that fuel violence.”
