United Nations, New York – Having successfully leveraged its leadership position to promote strategic partnerships and transparency with countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, St. Kitts, and Nevis handed over the chairmanship of the Group of Latin American and Caribbean States (GRULAC) at the United Nations to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The chairmanship of GRULAC was handed over to St. Kitts and Nevis at the start of 2024, and during its tenure in the leadership position, the nation worked closely with Latin American and Caribbean countries to promote mutual understanding and engage in various partnerships that proved beneficial for all the stakeholders.

The final meeting of GRULAC under the chairmanship of St. Kitts and Nevis was held on January 31, 2025, which was presided over by Her Excellency Dr. Mutryce Williams, the country’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

During the meeting, Dr. Williams expressed gratitude for the support that was extended to St. Kitts and Nevis as the nation led the GRULAC in promoting partnerships between the Latin American and Caribbean regions.

During its tenure in the leadership position of GRULAC, St. Kitts and Nevis took several proactive steps to impact the policy for ensuring sustainable development and conservation of natural resources of the Caribbean region. Besides, it also worked to promote the economic growth of nations in Latin America and the Caribbean region.

While presiding over the meeting of GRULAC, Ambassador Williams stated that all the Caribbean and Latin American countries needed to remain united in the face of various challenges, including climate change.

She said that the nations must also work out a collective strategy to ensure economic growth by implementing proactive monetary policies.

The Ambassador said that Latin America and the Caribbean had several similarities, and these nations must work together to ensure the prosperity of the entire region.

The Ambassador said that as St. Kitts and Nevis handover the chairmanship of the GRULAC to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, it will remain an active contributor to the various measures being taken by the Group of Latin America and Caribbean States and will continue to work to strengthen partnerships between nations.
