Trinidad and Tobago: Torrential Rainfall resulted in the heavy flooding across the sections of southeastern Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday. Due to the inclement weather, the rainfall is set to spread across other southern areas in the coming hours.

As of now, flooding is ongoing across Lower Barrackpore due to heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms. Significant flooding has also been occurred at Poui Trace, St Mary’s, Moruga as persisting heavy showers and thunderstorms affected southern Trinidad.

Street and flash flooding have been reported across parts of Debe, Penal, Barrackpore, San Francique, Preau, and Moruga. The Met Department of Trinidad and Tobago asked the public to avoid driving through flooded areas and those who are living in flood prone areas should take all necessary precautions.

The streets of the Penal Rock Road situated in the vicinity of More Diablo Quarry Road have been filled with rainwater, causing disruptions of the livelihoods. The vehicles and motorists have been stalled due to the excessive water on the streets.

As per the met department, the showers, thunderstorms and other inclement conditions are likely to develop across southern and western Trinidad through the morning. It will gradually move through North, providing flash flooding situation in multiple areas such as Penal, Debe, Barrackpore, San Francique, and environs.

A cluster of heavy showers and thunderstorms continues to persist across southern Trinidad, with street and flash flooding ongoing in multiple areas, causing disruptions to the people of the country.

Over the coming hours, showers and isolated thunderstorms are forecast to gradually spread across mainly Trinidad, providing locally intense rainfall. Due to the situation, street flooding is likely to occur across southern and central areas of Trinidad at this time.

A weak surface trough is forecast to interact with the ITCZ, bringing cloudy skies with periods of rain, isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms favoring Trinidad. Heavier rainfall is likely after midnight.

The 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season has begun on June 1, 2024 and will run through November 30, 2024.
