Times Square on August 25 witnessed extraordinary zeal, energy and celebration as Devon Martin lit the stage with his electrifying Soca music at the carnival. He performed as a part of the Tropical Fete’s annual Pop-Up Caribbean Carnival. This also included Steelpan and traditional Carnival characters.
This performance was a huge milestone for the celebrated Soca artiste from Trinidad and Tobago and proved why he is connotated as the global ambassador of Soca music. The crowd at Times Square and fans beyond and across the city accumulated in the evening to enjoy the pulse Martin brought out, which featured a mix of his classic hits and new releases. Cheering across the intersection at Broadway in Midtown Manhattan made the city joyous as each of them sang and danced to every beat. The crowd went crazy and was enjoying their hearts out as he performed his hit single ‘Happy Place’, which was accompanied by Tropical Fete’s Youth Steel Orchestra.
The singer heartily thanked all the fans who cheered for him in the crowd. He added how the people with the Caribbean flags make his performance truly unforgettable and a dream come true. Performing at Times Square on such a big global stage, the singer expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to share his music in such a legendary location. He also emphasized his vision and commitment to celebrating and spreading the rich cultural heritage of Tobago and Trinidad.
Lyrikal says he sees this as an opportunity and a significant milestone for Soca Music and his career. “The energy, the people, the atmosphere, it’s something I will never forget. Looking out at the people and seeing a variety of Caribbean flags and smiling faces makes everything worthwhile. I’m proud to represent my culture and bring Soca to the world stage,” he said.
Ahead of the Caribbean Labor Day celebrations, the carnival set the notion that the excitement is on the way to becoming a blast of celebration and the artists who make it all possible are showing up to represent themselves and leave an impact on their extraordinary culture at global levels. “We did this one for the culture. Performing in Times Square is a dream come true,” also said the ‘Look Back’ singer.
At the end of the carnival, his performance was highly appreciated by not only the Trinidad and Tobago citizens but also by the people of New York City. Devon Martin had it all: the commitment, talent and dedication.
