Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) has launched their manifesto for the General Elections scheduled for December 1, 2025. The political party currently in power has announced their manifesto under the vision of making Saint Lucia into a technologically driven small island developing state by 2035
The Saint Lucia Labour Party’s vision of making the country self-reliant for quality goods and services is a very important priority in the party’s manifesto. The manifesto inform the people of the island about the plans and blueprints that the SLP has set out for the next term.
The crucial sectors of development which were addressed by the manifesto include job creation, improved economic framework, infrastructural development, healthcare, and unemployment benefits. The Saint Lucia Labour Party has also shared their vision for smart education for the students, land based tourism and tourism as a measure for inclusive growth.
The political party also laid out their plan for the culture arts, creative economy and youth economy. All of these initiatives are crucial drivers of the Saint Lucia economy and all the sectors of the economy are headed towards the creation of a society that can flourish and develop.
In this article, we are expanding upon the Saint Lucia Labour Party’s plans to provide healthcare and job creation.
Healthcare
In the next term, the labour government will be paying attention to improving the quality of healthy living. The manifesto has shared that the healthcare sector will be technologically driven. The health system will be based on the pillars quality care, accessibility, affordability and equity.
The political party has shared that they will support the parents especially the people who are more disadvantaged. They will remove the promotion of unhealthy foods and promote healthy eating.
The manifesto has also highlighted that they will focus on public education programmes. Another important point highlighted in the SLP Manifesto for health was to extend the services of the Universal Health Care Programme.
The government wants to make sure people can access services for early detection and remedial intervention of diseases. The government will also implement strong laws that protect and improve the living conditions of the people so that they are not getting sick from unsanitary surroundings
SLP wants to integrate the health care system using modern technology to make sure that health care providers from the private and the public sector have a full online history of their patients.
This information will be available to healthcare providers irrespective of their point of entry into the country’s health care system.
The labour government will strive to develop, through a separate legal entity, a financing system which can meet the cost of health care for patients locally and overseas. The labour party has also promised to deliver a completed fifth finger of the OKEU hospital to increase its bed capacity and medical facilities.
The Labour party has committed on the commissioning of the St Jude hospital. With the hospital running, all patients at the George Odlum stadium to be transferred safely to the new facility. During the next term, if won, the SLP will also start the construction of the Soufriere Hospital.
The Political Party has promised that they will replace the Vieux Fort health Center for the construction of a Polyclinic.
Job Creation:
The Political party has claimed that under their plan a significant number of jobs will be created as a direct consequence of growth in tourism and development of infrastructure projects. The political party however has also laid out some measures to make sure that jobs are being created constantly for the youth of the country.
The SLP administration has promised that they will construct two turnkey facilities for housing Business Process Operations (BPO) through Invest Saint Lucia. One of these facilities will be in Au-Tabor, Anse-La -Raye and the other facility will be situated in Union.
They also promised to implement the important Sandbox legislation to address the rights and responsibilities of potential consumers and entrepreneurs.
Steps will also be taken to finance and facilitate the creation of a Sandbox operation within the Youth Economy Agency to allow for the innovation, experimentation and development of business solutions using computer technology.
Finally, the Labour government will incentivize the creation of job opportunities in cyber security within the private sector.
