Prime Minister Terrence made his recent visit to the Cayon High School with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, on Wednesday. This is a follow-up visit by the PM and his associates after March 2024 to assess the progress made since previous inspections and to gather updates on any emerging issues.
Prime Minister Dr. Drew has made quite a few statements emphasising the need to upgrade education in the country. He is making sure the school has adequate resources to gear up the process for immediate renovations. PM has till now invested hundreds of thousands of dollars to replace doors, windows, and railings and rid the school of mould. Also, new furniture is reinstated for both the teachers and students.
Since the beginning of the year 2024, Prime Minister Drew has been making sure all the much-needed items are in place to add to the comfort of both teachers and students. He also donated several items in alliance with the progress of the school. The items donated included an air conditioning unit, six standing fans, a laptop computer, a freezer and two water coolers. The donation will positively improve the overall learning experience. Prime Minister Dr. Drew, who is the Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher #8, in which the Cayon Primary School is located, also gave a statement in which he stated that this donation formed part of his goal of giving as much support as he could to the institution.
Last year, the son of the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Terrance Drew Jr., launched a back-to-school initiative named ‘Entering the New School Year on the Right Foot’. This initiative includes thirty primary school students, who will each receive a free pair of shoes from Drew in preparation for the new academic year.
The PM stated post his last visit, “In my visits, I also recognised that there is work needed in terms of aesthetics, and I went out to seek a donor, a group that is willing now, to contribute to the upgrade of the Cayon High School,” said Dr. Drew. “We had decided from the beginning that we would invest in the Cayon High School as it looked deplorable and abandoned when we first took it over.”
The PM also took this to his social and stated in his post, “This is the largest sum invested at any one time at the Cayon High School in over a decade, and we will continue to invest.”
