Mr. Drew summoned a meeting with the Special Envoy of the United Arab Emirates, Mr. Omar Shehadeh, to discuss the bilateral relations between the two nations. Specifically, this meeting focused on investment opportunities at St. Kitts and Nevis. Mr. Omar Shehadeh was welcomed by PM Drew in the bilateral meeting that was held in Manhattan, New York.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly. It also consisted of important leaders from St. Kitts and Nevis, such as Dr. Denzil Douglas, Honourable Dr. Joyelle Clarke, United Nations Ambassador Mutryce Williams; Naeemah Hazelle, Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, as well as Dr. Neil Parsons, a Diplomat, Global Health Policy Consultant, Energy Advisor, and Management Consultant.
The Bilateral meeting focused on deepening the UAE and St. Kitts and Nevis relations with a particular focus on follow-up actions from a recent technical meeting held with Masdar in Basseterre. PM Drew expressed his and his country’s interest in the UAE and their crucial projects based on renewable energy, infrastructure development, and tourism.
While addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Drew said, “The relationship between St. Kitts and the UAE has great potential to grow, especially in key sectors that align with our national development agenda. We are eager to continue discussions and welcome further collaboration.”
Mr Omar Shehadeh also made a statement during the meeting, in which he thanked the ministers of St. Kitts and Nevis for their support every time they were involved in the major projects of the UAE.
He also said that the UAE sees great potential for investment in the Federation, especially as both nations continue to prioritize sustainable development and innovation in their country.
The bilateral meeting served as a great opportunity to highlight some key outcomes from the technical discussions that took place with Masdar and identify some crucial steps that are to be taken in the future.
While concluding the meeting, PM Drew talked about St. Kitts and Nevis’ commitment to building a strong relationship with the UAE in the future. He also claimed that this would enhance its investment in its vision towards sustainable growth and economic diversification of the country.
