Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew extended warm wishes to Leslie Wade, a citizen of St. Kitts and Nevis, who has recently been appointed as the Permanent Observer of CARICOM to the United Nations.
PM Terrance Drew shared pictures of a recent meeting on his social media handle, and he stated, “Earlier, I met Leslie Wade, and I wish Ms Wade all the very best as she embarks on this important role.” He added that the region requires great representatives like Wade. He underlined the issues that small Caribbean nations suffer, such as climate change, economic fluctuations, and social inequalities.
Leslie Wade will now handle the role of diplomat as she acts as a bridge between CARICOM. It is an organized community in the Caribbean and the global arena of the UN.
While handling this position, Wade will be responsible for showcasing the matters and solutions for any serious crisis. Wade’s appointment is a huge celebration for the Caribbean region. Further, this clearly shows her capabilities and commitment to small nation development.
As the new Permanent Observer, she will talk with other United Nations representatives, send out invitations from embassies, and engage in the mission of CARICOM. This is to promote economic integration and equitable development and conduct common foreign policies for member states.
Wade will stand up as a voice for the Caribbean islands when discussing climate change, which is an existential threat and has damaged many regions so far. This appointment comes in handy when CARICOM is actively working to improve its capability to lead international issues.
The Permanent Observer will work collaboratively with other UN missions and international organizations regarding sustainable development, climate resilience, security, and economic growth in the Caribbean.
Leslie Wade has made a huge impact in many areas, looking at her journey from supporting the World Health Organization’s New York liaison office. This initiative is done along the ECOSOC.
For the last two decades, she worked alongside the Bureau of ECOSOC. Importantly, she coordinated in facilitating peace-building efforts such as the post-crisis rebuilding of Haiti. Her work with important diplomat leaders such as the Security Council and Peacebuilding Commission has influenced how global responses to emerging conflicts are conceived.
CARICOM has also made major contributions to areas such as regional concerns in the United Nations. As Leslie Wade in her role, she would be defending individuals against a broad backdrop of security and humanitarian concerns. These issues are uniquely present in regions constantly racked with political instability and gang violence.
