Jamaica’s National Champion, Ackera Nugent, has clinched her place in the Women’s 100m Hurdles final, finishing third in semi-final three with a time of 12.44 seconds. She will be flying the Jamaican flag solo in the finals.
According to the information, the 22 year old female athlete has become Jamaica’s lone representative in the final of the women’s 100m hurdles at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024.
Nugent booked her spot as a non-automatic qualifier and is all set to compete in the world’s most competitive track and field event.
Meanwhile, Danielle Williams, who competed in the first semi-final heat, finished sixth in 12.82, while teammate Janeek Brown, running in semi-final two, finished seventh in 12.92. Also, America’s Alaysha Johnson is the fastest qualifier having clock 12.34 to win semi-final two.
For 22-year-old Ackera Nugent, making it to her first Olympic final is a significant achievement. As the sole Jamaican representative in the women’s 110m hurdles final, Nugent is confident that tomorrow’s race will come down to who remains the most focused.
“With every victory there is testimony,” said Ackera Nugent, who booked her spot in the finals. She added, “The race was, not really what I expected it to be, but then at the same time, I’m very grateful for the little things and to make to the finals at the Olympics is a great thing for me.”
The finals are scheduled to take place today with Nugent all set to race in lane 9 next to Bahamian Devynne Charlton. The Jamaican athlete noted that it is a tough field but she remains hopeful to give her best performance.
