Antigua and Barbuda: One person is hospitalised with multiple serious injuries after a tragic car accident that occurred on March 14, along the road to Five Islands, Antigua. Reportedly, this crash marked the third accident within a month at the same location, urging many people to raise concern over the road safety.
The details regarding the latest incidents and the conditions about the injured victim have not been officially revealed or confirmed by the authorities nor by any local reports.
According to reports, the incident took place on Saturday, March 14, at Five Islands Road, Antigua. Although the circumstances surrounding the incident have not been revealed, but it is believed that the driver of the car might have lost his control over the vehicle and crashed it.
Reportedly, the photos of the tragic accident are circulating online which shows the damage of the car involved. In the images a blue coloured overturned vehicle is visible on the roadside, which is extensively structural damaged indicating the severity of the crash.
The front section of the car is also visibly crushed, indicating a high-impact collision or loss of control. The pictures of the crash also reveal the effect of the accident as the doors of the front seat were pushed open while the rest of the car’s parts, including the broken parts, loose interior, and side mirrors, were scattered all over the road.
Notably, the residents of the area reported that it happened due to the danger of the area. Earlier many people filed a complaint regarding the key issues of the area that there are no street lights, which is the main cause of the increasing accident rates.
Residents, stated that “this road has become increasingly dangerous, while pointing out the previous three accidents that took place at the same spot within weeks.”
The community have previously highlighted the critical infrastructural needs for this stretch of road from the authorities, specifically citing “poor lighting and speeding” as major contributing factors to recurring accidents, but no actions were taken.
Residents are still urging the authorities to take some precautions to prevent further accidents on this road or around this area while suggesting them to make speed bumps or improved signage, and install street lighting and cameras to prevent further incidents.
