Castries, Saint Lucia: Paris Olympic Gold Medalist Julien Alfred from Saint Lucia advanced to the women’s 200m semi-finals on Sunday. She is again eyeing at another Gold for her country as she will compete for the position in the finals today at 2: 45 pm.
After victory, she will progress to the finals of the event which is scheduled to be held on August 6, 2024 at 3: 40 pm. If Julien Alfred manages to win medal in the event, then she will become the first-ever athlete to win two Olympics medals for Saint Lucia.
On Saturday, she ended the Olympic medal drought of Saint Lucia by winning first-ever gold in women’s 100m at Paris. She defeated US’ most decorated athlete Sha’Carri Richardson and become the fastest woman in the world.
With her victory, Alfred shocked the world and made her country to be recognized at the global platform. She received wishes and greetings on her occasion and become the matter of appreciation across Saint Lucia and the wider Caribbean.
In order to support their athlete, the citizens of Saint Lucia gathered at a park and organized the live broadcast of women 100m in the country. The entire country witnessed the winning moment and expressed delight for her achievement.
The citizens have also celebrated her milestone with dance, music and created a Carnival like atmosphere across the country.
Now, the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports of Saint Lucia will also host the live broadcast for the event. The citizens were again invited to be part of the milestone and stated that Alfred will again create history.
With her victory, she became a matter of appreciation and she etched her country’s name in the history. The small island nation with population not more than 200,0000 has produced such a talent who stunned the nation by defeating all the developed world.
The country with limited resources has now historic first ever gold medal in Olympics which is a great deal for them.
