Saint Lucia: Julien Alfred from Saint Lucia qualified for the semi-finals of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games on Friday. She secured first place in heat two of the opening round of the women’s 100m.
She clocked the time of 10.95 seconds and secured place in Lane 9 after they started running at 6: 00 am. Before the start of the event, she talked about the training sessions of five weeks and said that the session provided her confidence.
With the victory, she will participate in the semi-final round on Saturday and if qualified then the finals will take place on Sunday.
If she managed to win medal in the event, Alfred will become first ever athlete of the country to secure the victory in the Olympics. It will be recorded as the history in the sports sector of Saint Lucia.
Julien Alfred is the World Indoor Champion as she won the golf medal in the 60m in March 2024 by recording the national record.
Saint Lucian athlete will also contest women 200m in the Olympics which is scheduled to begin on Monday. The 23-year-old is known for its fastest reaction time of 0.161 seconds.
Alfred also finished the New Zealand’s Zoe Hobbs in the time of 11.08 seconds. Additionally, Richardson from the United States have also reached the semi-final of the game and is known as the strong contenders for Gold.
The victory has garnered huge appreciation from the people of Saint Lucia as the opposition leader Allen Chastant expressed greetings for her performance.
Further, Deputy Prime Minister Ernest Hilaire also lauded for her performance and wished her best for next rounds of the game.
Paris Olympics 2024 kicked off on July 26, 2024 and will be concluded on August 11, 2024. Saint Lucia is being represented by four athletes including Alfred in different sporting events.
She is the only woman from Saint Lucia who will compete for game and eyeing her first Olympic medal.
