The Government of Grenada handed over homes to around 27 families in a ceremony held on Tuesday at the Mermaid Beach Hotel.
These houses have been handed over to the families who were displaced and lost the roof over their heads due to the passage of Hurricane Beryl in July 2024.
The prefabricated houses were provided to the beneficiaries with the support from Trinidad and Tobago based organization, “Hands that Serve.”
As per the details, around 100 volunteers from the organization are busy in Grenada, installing the prefabricated houses, 10 at the new Dumfries housing site and the other 17 on private lands.
While sharing the glimpses of the ceremony on his official Facebook account, PM Dickon Micthell said, “Earlier today I attended the handing-over ceremony for the prefabricated homes in Carriacou, where 27 families are set to move into their new homes.”
He also extended his deepest gratitude to all the volunteers from the Trinidad-based organisation Hands That Serve, who has been working hard to brought their vision to life.
PM Mitchell said that this is more than just housing, it is about restoring hope and building stronger communities for the future.
Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Tevin Andrews also expressed his happiness and satisfaction on the handing over ceremony. He also extended gratitude to the organization for their crucial support in the rebuilding process.
As per the details, these 27 houses are a part of the commitment of Grenada of constructing over 200 prefabricated houses. Highlighting on it, the authorities said that they are serious about addressing the housing needs of the islands in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl.
These 200 prefabricated homes have been negotiated with Hapi Homes, a United States-based company. Shedding light on this move undertaken by them, Minister Tevin Andrews described it as a significant one.
He added that they are committed to help Grenada recovers from the devastating effects of Hurricane Beryl.
