Grenada: Before the commencement of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) 47th Heads of Government Meeting the Outgoing Chairman of CARICOM and President of Guyana, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali and his delegation, along with Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell visited Carriacou to witness the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl on July 1, 2024.
They were also joined by CARICOM Secretary General Carla Barnett while they visited Carriacou to evaluate the damage that Hurricane Beryl caused. Additionally, they also accessed the ongoing relief and recovery efforts made by the soldiers from the Guyana Defence Force.
Also, earlier several OECS members and Prime Ministers visited Grenada to meet the survivors and examine the aftermath that has been caused by the then category 4 storm. Dr. Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, accompanied by Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica, visited the country and had a meeting with PM Dickon Mitchel and also released the relief funds for fellow Caribbean Island.
PM Mitchell stated that it is important to highlight the impact that climate change has made on our lives, and he also emphasised the importance of discussing climate resilience and sustainable development during the 47th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM.
He further noted that this meeting will have great outcomes that can help the Caribbean nations grow and most importantly the discussion on the regional challenges that are being faced by the governments and also the citizens.
The 47th meeting of CARICOM will prove to showcase the unity and determination of the region to work together to ensure sustainable development for its people.
