Caribbean: Barbados Royals won its second consecutive match of the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on Friday night and jumped to the second position in the points table. The team defeated St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by 2 wickets at the Warner Park Cricket Ground, Basseterre.
The match started with the toss which was won by Barbados Royals who decided to bowl first, sending Patriots for the batting. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have faced tough bowling from the Royals as they fell short by 10 to 15 runs and set the target of 154 runs with the loss of eight wickets in the 20 overs.
Dunith Wellalage took three wickets for Barbados Royals by giving 35 runs in four overs. The set batsman of Patriots- Wanindu Hasaranga have been taken down by Wellalage as he played a knock of 40 runs off 27 deliveries.
He was supported by Mikyle Louis from SKN Patriots who made 30 runs off 20 balls and played a crucial knock for the team. However, he was taken down by Maheesh Theekshana of the Royals who took 2 wickets by giving only 16 runs in the 4 overs.
The third best batsman for SKN Patriots was Ryan John who played a knock of 29 runs off 14 deliveries. He was taken down by Obed McCoy from Barbados Royals who played for 3.5 overs by giving only 23 runs by taking 2 wickets.
Dunith Wellalage secured the “Player of the Tournament” award as he played a knock of 39 runs off 32 balls during the chasing for Barbados Royals. He was supported by Kadeem Alleyne who made 30 runs off 18 balls and Quinton de Kock who made 19 runs off 13 balls.
The team made 157 runs in the 19.5 overs with the loss of 8 wickets as the two wickets for SKN Patriots were taken down by Kyle Mayers. He played three overs by giving only 17 runs and was supported by Verrasammy Permaul who played four overs by taking one wicket and giving only 16 runs.
Ryan John of SKN Patriots played 1.5 overs and took one wicket by giving 21 runs.
Rovman Powell of Barbados Royals added that they are happy with the victory and the credit should be given to the bowlers for the way they bowled. He also told the batters to win the game, and bowlers won the tournament, and they played well for the victory.
